200-HOUR TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM 2011 — 2012


Teacher Training is offered in a 200-hour certification program leading to a Yoga Alliance RYT-200. The program consists of one weekend per month for eight months, plus required weekly yoga classes, assisting master teachers in their classes, and home study. The training is balanced according to the standards of the Yoga Alliance and includes the following:

  • 121 hours of Techniques (some of which will come from regularly scheduled classes during the week)
  • 30 hours of Teaching Methodology
  • 20 hours of Yoga Anatomy and Physiology, 30 hours of Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle, and Ethics for Yoga Teachers
  • 19 hours of Practicum
  • 180 hours are "contact" hours spent in the presence of your instructors, and 57 hours will be "non-contact"(reading, home practice, etc.)
  • This adds up to a total of 220 hours. The instructors are Susan Morton, M.S.,

Susan Morton and Susan Wilson are both extraordinarily gifted Master Yoga Teachers. Together they combine an unparalleled depth and richness of over 50 years teaching experience and more than 30,000 hours of sharing the knowledge and art of yoga. Both are highly skilled yoga therapists. They have taught in many diverse venues from studio settings, to schools, colleges, assisted living facilities, and prisons. (See faculty bios)

This is the first Yoga Teacher Training by Susan Morton and Susan Wilson to be offered in six years. It is a rare opportunity to study and learn from their exceptional combined talents. Only periodically do they come together to offer these trainings to ensure truly inspired and uniquely qualified teachers. They are seriously committed to creating well-rounded, skilled teachers who will continue in the ancient and classical tradition of yoga, the benefits of which are now supported by scientific research.

CURRICULUM

Our graduates are trained in classical hatha yoga with the emphasis on alignment as taught in the style of B.K.S. Iyengar. We teach in the spirit of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali which are an essential aspect of our studies and the heart and soul of yoga. The curriculum includes:

  • Asana
  • Pranayama
  • Teaching Methodology
  • Techniques and Hands-on adjustments
  • Anatomy and Physiology and their application
  • Meditation, including chanting and mantra
  • Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Sutras, and their integration into daily life
  • Lifestyle and Ethics for Yoga Teachers
  • Sequencing of poses
  • Class structuring
  • The Business of Yoga
  • Two classes per week at the Yoga and Meditation Center of Montclair are included.

APPLICATION

Our training is limited to fifteen students. A minimum of two years of yoga study and practice is required. The cost of the training is $3,150 with a $250 discount for those who register 4 months in advance of the training. The discounted price is $2,900. A $1,150 deposit is required at the time of your acceptance into the program. When your application has been received, you will be contacted to set up an interview which is required as part of our application process.
